Here's how the Blades' American owners compare with others in the Championship.

Sheffield United's owners have been in charge at Bramall Lane for less than a year, but they have already experienced plenty of the ups and downs that the position has to offer.

COH Sports, an American consortium led by Steve Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, officially completed their takeover of United on 23rd December 2024. According to The Athletic, they paid £111 million to the former head honcho, Prince Abdullah, to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in the Championship club.

Immediately they set out to simultaneously set high standards, with a Premier League return being their main aim, but also to reassure supporters that they were the right people to lead the Blades forward.

"Like all Blades fans we want to see the club competing in the top-flight of English football consistently, not just on a one-off basis, and we have been encouraged by the strong start to this season," Rosen said in his opening statement as the co-owner of the club.

"The team has been performing strongly and we are committed to supporting the management team to continue this progress.

"We want to take this chance to assure the supporters that we understand the huge responsibility that comes with owning Sheffield United. The club is rooted in the fabric of this great city and our fans are the beating heart who back the team no matter what.

"Our fans will be at the heart of what COH stands for, and we are deeply committed to ensuring Sheffield United is accessible and affordable for our supporters."

COH Sports have already made some big splashes, namely replacing Chris Wilder with Ruben Selles. They have introduced an AI recruitment model to help them target niche players, but have also been keen to sign some really strong players, like Louie Barry and Tyler Bindon.

The money they paid for the club shows the level of wealth that is behind the Blades, but the exact extent of their finances isn't entirely documented. Rosen's net worth, for example, isn't publicly known, whereas Heltoukhy's collective wealth is said to be just over £93 million, according to Quiver Quantitative.

Rosen does have some very high-value assets to his name, including the Royal Palm yacht and country club in Florida, which, according to The Star, he paid $6.7 million for.

They are definitely high-rollers, but they don't come too close to the top spot when it comes to wealthy owners in the Championship. Queens Park Rangers, despite their limited spending in recent times, have the wealthiest owners in the division.

They are co-owned by Ruben Gnanalingam, Richard Reilly and Lakshmi Mittal. According to Forbes, the Gnanalingam family fortune sits at a whopping $1.45 billion. They, though, are way overshadowed by Mittal, whose estimated net worth is said to be $19.3 billion.

Stoke City's owners, the Coates family, who also own bet365, also dwarf the riches of COH Sports with an approximated wealth of £7.5 billion.

The Blades' city rivals Sheffield Wednesday are struggling for cash at the moment despite the reported net worth of the family of their owner, Dejphon Chansiri. They are a part of the seafood empire Thai Union Group. In 2020, the family had an estimated value of $535 million.

That, however, is not indicative of the Owls' owner having direct access to all of that wealth, as has been shown by the recent missed payments to his players, staff and other clubs.

He is looking to sell Wednesday for a figure (£100 million) similar to what COH Sports paid for United in December, according to Alan Nixon.
