The ex-Boro boss has bagged himself a new role after his Riverside Stadium exit.
Michael Carrick has found his next footballing role following his sacking as Middlesbrough head coach, albeit probably not one he'd envisaged taking up this summer.
The 43-year-old was relieved of his duties as Boro boss earlier this month, having failed to guide his team to a play-off finish in the Championship.
Middlesbrough's 10th-placed finish in the second tier in 2024/25 marked a clear failure of a campaign, and another step backwards after recording an eighth-placed finish the season prior.
As such, the Manchester United and England legend saw his time on Teesside come to an end this summer, with his services now available to a new club, and country...
Sunday 15 June will see the latest chapter of Soccer Aid history written at Manchester United's iconic Old Trafford Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7.30pm.
All done in the name of raising money for UNICEF, the annually held match pits England against World XI FC, as legends of the game share a dressing room and pitch with all kinds of celebrities and well-known figures.
2025's renewal will see the former lineal and WBC heavyweight champion boxer Tyson Fury take on the role as England manager, with former Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney on his coaching staff.
On the opposing side, legendary defender and former Italy captain Leonardo Bonucci is one of the marquee additions to the World XI's 2025 team, whilst fellow icons such as Edwin van der Sar, Robbie Keane, Harry Kewell, Carlos Tevez, Nemanja Vidic and one of the most influential women's footballers of all time, Nadia Nadim, are all taking part too.
England will be bidding to regain their crown as champions following their 2024 success, and in order to help them do that, they've drafted in Carrick to dust off his boots and pull on the Three Lions once again.
Carrick took his first steps into full-time management when taking up the role as Middlesbrough head coach in October 2022.
As such, this is the first time he will have gone through the process of being sacked as a manager, which will naturally take a certain amount of time to digest and come to terms with.
Despite having been relieved of his duties on Teesside, there were plenty of signs during his Riverside reign that he could well be a top coach in the future, and as such, he surely won't be short of potential suitors this summer.
A report from TeessideLive has revealed that Carrick is currently assessing the options that are out there for him, and he has been touted for the vacant hotseat at Bristol City.
So, it remains to be seen whether he will indeed be looking for a fairly instant return to management, or whether the former Boro boss may well decide to go down the patience route, and perhaps wait for another opening later in the year.
