Bolton Wanderers have been urged to seal a loan deal for Cardiff City striker Kion Etete, with the 23-year-old judged to be the physical presence that the Trotters have been missing this season.

Wales Online have reported that Bluebirds striker Etete will make a loan move to Bolton until the end of the season, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it's a good opportunity for the former Tottenham man to put himself in the shop window.

It's been a difficult campaign in the Welsh capital for Etete thanks to injury, and he finds himself down the pecking order of Omer Riza following the recent arrival of Yousef Salech.

Despite a host of League One interest, Bolton look set to be the side that secures Etete's signature, and it's been deemed a positive move for the managerless Trotters.

We asked our Bolton Wanderers fan pundit, Liam O'Meara, what he made of Etete's impending arrival at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, and he was optimistic, despite Etete's lack of goals in recent seasons.

Speaking to Football League World, Liam said: "I didn’t see that one coming, and I’m pretty pleased by it, to be completely honest.

"I think a lot of people will be concerned by his goalscoring record, and I’ve seen fans of the other teams he’s played for cite that, but Bolton have goals in the team, and it’s not been a problem. Even without Charles, we’ve had goals from all over the pitch.

“What we need is a presence up top, and he gives us that. I’m quite pleased by it, and he’s joining a club that really does appreciate a target man historically.”

A loan move to Bolton Wanderers could do Kion Etete the world of good

Etete hasn't had the best of times at Cardiff, and he's struggled to play all too regularly, making just 63 appearances in two-and-a-half years, and scoring just nine goals.

In fairness to the 23-year-old, Cardiff were battling relegation in his first season at the club, and he's struggled with injuries, so a loan move away could do him the world of good.

If he starts playing regularly at Bolton and is able to score some goals, it could put him in the frame to earn a new deal at Cardiff with his current contract set to expire, and if not, he'll be well-placed to find a new club should he impress at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

With game time set to be at a premium at Cardiff between now and the end of the season, a loan move makes sense for Etete, and you get the impression that Bolton will be a good fit for the 23-year-old.
