Players, coaches and other members of staff are still yet to be paid their May wages.

The Professional Footballers' Association has released a statement condemning the failure of Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri to pay his players their wages on time.

On two occasions in the last few months, the Owls' players haven't received the money they were owed on time. In the most recent case, when players, coaches and staff members were supposed to receive their salaries on 29th May, the issue is still not resolved, nearly two weeks later.

Further calls for the Thai owner to relinquish his hold on the club have been made, and that's just the tip of his iceberg of problems. Wednesday are under an embargo thanks to this money problem and are at serious risk of being handed a three-window transfer ban as a result of their multiple late payments over the last 12 months.

PFA release Sheffield Wednesday statement

Amid reported frustrations from the players about the lack of clarity over when they will actually receive the money that they are owed, the PFA have released a statement criticising those in charge of the Owls for their handling of the situation.

It read: "As the professional players' union, we have now been speaking to members at Sheffield Wednesday over many months regarding repeated delays in the payment of salaries.

"Ultimately, players and staff are like any other group of employees - they should be able to expect their wages to be paid on time and for the terms of their contracts to be met by their employers.

"When that does not happen, it has a significant impact on the professional and personal lives of players, staff and their families. The uncertainty it causes is made worse when there appears to be a lack of clear communication regarding the reason these issues are occurring, and when payments can be expected.

"Continued and ongoing delays to player and staff wages are unacceptable and need to be addressed without further delay. We will be continuing to support our members at Sheffield Wednesday until this situation is properly resolved."

Awful Sheffield Wednesday circumstances could see them plummet

An American consortium has provided some hope to everyone associated with the club by placing a couple of bids to buy the club, but both were swiftly rejected and there appears to be quite a large gap in valuation between what they are willing to pay and what Chansiri wants.

On Wednesday evening, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust held a meeting to discuss the ongoing issues at their club. Former player and manager Chris Turner lambasted Chansiri and his actions, calling him the "worst chairman" the club has ever had. He fears, though, that the Thai businessman won't be gotten rid of easily.

It's such a worrying state for the club to be in. The lack of available funds, the seeming unwillingness of Chansiri to let go of this currently sinking ship. Add on top of that the desire of the manager, Danny Rohl, to leave the club, and you have a recipe for disaster brewing at Hillsborough.
