Derby County have been linked with a move for Nectarios Triantis this summer

John Eustace has claimed that Sunderland defender Nectarios Triantis is not on Derby County’s transfer radar at the moment.

It was reported by the Daily Record that the Rams had made a £1.2 million offer to sign the Australian, which was rejected.

Triantis spent last season on loan with Scottish side Hibernian, where he enhanced his reputation with consistently strong performances.

The 22-year-old featured 34 times in the Premiership as Hibs finished third in the table, before returning to Sunderland earlier in the summer.

Eustace has claimed that Triantis is not a player that is currently on Derby’s radar amid reports of a rejected offer for the player.

He praised the centre-back, but suggested that it’s his agent that is stirring rumours of an exit from the Stadium of Light.

"That's not a name I've been speaking about with the club. I think his agent might be putting that out there," said Eustace, via the BBC.

"He's a good player but he's not somebody that, at the moment, we are looking at."

Derby will begin their upcoming league campaign this weekend, with the team set to face Stoke City on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Derby County’s summer business

Derby have been active in the summer transfer window as they look to build on their 19th place finish in the table last season.

The Rams have added Patrick Agyemang, Rhian Brewster, Carlton Morris, Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth to their first team squad.

Richard O’Donnell has also been signed to bolster their options between the sticks, joining after his exit from Blackpool.

Derby have until 1 September to complete any remaining transfer business before the market shuts until January, with this being Eustace’s first chance to shape the team after arriving as manager in February.

Derby have defensive options

Derby aren’t pursuing a deal for Triantis, and it’s not too surprising given the options at Eustace’s disposal.

The Rams have the likes of Matt Clarke, Jake Rooney, Curtis Nelson, Sondre Langas and Danny Batth in the first team squad.

Triantis performed well on loan with Hibs last year, and is likely ready to compete at a Championship level now, but game time at Pride Park would be limited if he did make that switch.

It’s unlikely he’ll feature for the Black Cats, so his agent will be looking to find clubs where he could play regularly this season, but it’s unlikely he’d get that with a move to Pride Park.
