The Tractor Boys have confirmed that the defender has put pen to paper on a new deal this summer after their relegation from the top flight, tying him down until 2030.

The Irishman joined the Suffolk outfit last summer, arriving from Burnley after Ipswich gained promotion under Kieran McKenna.

He featured 35 times in the Premier League, with the team finishing 19th in the table, having signed for the club in a deal worth a reported €24 (£20.4) million.

O’Shea has outlined his desire to compete in the Premier League with Ipswich again, highlighting the strong characters in the dressing room.

He made it clear that he wants to bring success to the club, and that he believes they can continue to grow despite their relegation to the Championship.

"I’m really happy and very proud to have signed a new contract at Ipswich Town," said O’Shea, via the club’s official website.

"We learned a lot last season and that will be really important for us going forward.

"I’m glad to have signed this new contract and I am ready to get to work again in pre-season.

"There are good characters and good human beings at this club and I want to help deliver success again and help the club get back into the Premier League.

"This is a massive club but it can continue to grow and I'm excited."

Dara O’Shea rejects Premier League interest

O’Shea has put pen to paper on a new deal with Ipswich despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

It was reported earlier this month by The Irish Sun that Wolves and Leeds United were both eyeing a move for the defender.

Former club Burnley were also mentioned as an interested party, with the Clarets now back in the top flight.

O’Shea’s new Ipswich contract runs until the summer of 2030.

O’Shea contract is real coup for Ipswich

O’Shea was a consistent presence in the side last year, and losing him would’ve been a blow.

He has proven himself as a top-end Championship player, with the potential to compete in the Premier League long-term.

Keeping him will be a boost to McKenna’s side, as they eye promotion straight back to the top flight.

Holding onto top stars will help make the Tractor Boys the favourites for a top two finish in the Championship next season, and fans will be buzzing to know that the focus of those players is promotion back to the Premier League and not jumping ship.
