Lille midfielder Angel Gomes (24) is the subject of interest for Premier League sides as West Ham have joined the race to sign the England international as a free agent next summer, according to a report this Tuesday from L’Equipe. The outlet understands that talks over a contract extension are on standby with the 24-year-old Manchester United Academy graduate poised to leave Les Dogues upon the expiry of his five-year contract next June.
Given Lille are still competing in three different competitions (Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League), club president Olivier Létang has claimed that no Lile senior player would leave Bruno Genesio’s squad during the winter transfer window. Lille will host Feyenoord this Wednesday for the Champions League’s eighth and final league tie.
The Telegraph reported on Monday that West Ham’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur held talks with Gomes as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The 24-year-old England international made his injury return last Saturday during Lille’s Ligue 1 away 2-1 defeat to Strasbourg. Gomes addressed his future recently, saying that he was aware of clubs enquiring about his situation. “I’m now completely focused on Lille. I want to finish the season in the best way possible and then we will see what happens, I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations.
