According to The Star, the Hammers are ready to test the Championship side’s resolve with an offer for the shot-stopper.

The 20-year-old made his breakthrough into the Owls’ first-team squad last season, appearing eight times in the Championship under Danny Rohl.

The youngster is starting to earn a lot of attention for the progress he’s made at both underage level, and now in the senior side for Sheffield Wednesday.

West Ham are reportedly preparing an approach for Charles this summer, with the new season now under two weeks away.

It’s understood that Sheffield Wednesday are reluctant to agree to any sale in this transfer market, but the club’s financial situation could yet play a factor.

Charles made his Championship debut in March, featuring in a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City, having previously played for the Yorkshire outfit in the EFL and FA Cup.

It is expected that the 20-year-old will be a key figure for the team this upcoming season, particularly as he is the most experienced goalkeeper remaining in the squad.

However, West Ham are planning to test Sheffield Wednesday’s resolve, with the club’s financial issues now well documented.

Charles has a contract with the Owls until the summer of 2027, giving them some leverage in any upcoming negotiations.

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer business

Sheffield Wednesday have been unable to complete any incoming transfer deals so far this summer, with uncertainty surrounding their finances.

The difficulties behind the scenes have led to the departure of Danny Rohl as manager, as well as the likes of Akin Famewo, Josh Windass, Michael Smith and Barry Bannan, among others.

Sheffield Wednesday will begin their upcoming league campaign with a clash against Leicester City on 10 August.

Sheffield Wednesday need to hold onto these players

Charles will be needed this season, so losing him would be a massive blow, especially if a cut-rate price ends up being agreed due to their financial situation.

He has just turned 20 and is already showing signs of being a Championship calibre player, so he is someone that could become very valuable once he gets more experience under his belt.

A move to West Ham would likely keep him from playing regularly, so that’s an advantage Sheffield Wednesday may have this summer.
