Lille OSC president Olivier Létang criticised Olympique de Marseille over reports that the club have reached an agreement on personal terms with Edon Zhegrova (26) when speaking to the press after the UEFA Europa League draw.
The news broke earlier that an agreement on personal terms between the Les Phocéens and the Lille winger had been reached, with Zhegrova reportedly ready to put pen to paper on a five-year contract. It was noted that all that was left for Marseille to do was to agree terms with Lille OSC.
However, Létang has released a fiery statement, expressing his disappointment with the way Marseille have approached this transfer. He told the press, “I’m surprised because we have had no contact with Marseille. The rules are quite clear; you’re not allowed to contact a player from another club without permission. To date, I’ve not received any request from Marseille to be able to speak to my player. I heard this morning that the Marseille coach had spoken to my player. Surprising, but we’re never short of surprises with Marseille.”
Earlier today, Lille discovered their opponents for the upcoming league phase of the Europa League, with the club drawing Dinamo Zagreb, PAOK, Freiburg, and SK Brann at home, and AS Roma, Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, and Celta de Vigo away. Létang joked, “It’s a long way to go until Istanbul,” where the final takes place.
