Weah breakthrough as Juventus and Marseille talks progress

Footmercato claim that Juventus and Olympique Marseille have moved substantially closer to a deal for Timothy Weah after confusion over the €13m offer.

The French club was frustrated by the seeming change of approach because Juve had previously accepted a €13m bid from Nottingham Forest, only for the player to turn it down because he did not appreciate the destination.

It therefore confused them that Juventus refused an identical proposal and were now asking for more money compared to the Nottingham Forest proposal.

Talks had therefore stalled with the Ligue 1 side unwilling to raise their bid any higher in these circumstances.

This evening, Footmercato in France suggest that the two clubs have moved closer to each other’s positions during fresh negotiations.

A deal is not done yet, but there seems to have been significant progress to break the impasse.

Weah too was frustrated by the situation, as he wanted more power to choose his next destination and pushed for a return to France, having played for Paris Saint-Germain and Lille before the €11m plus bonuses transfer to Juventus in 2023.
