On Wednesday afternoon, it was revealed that Lyon had seen their appeal with the DNCG successful, and that the decision to relegate the Rhône club to the second-tier of French football had been reversed. Following the announcement, OL held a press conference with newly-appointed president Michelle Kang, where she revealed how the club avoided relegation to Ligue 2.
Les Gones’ first meeting with the French football financial watchdog was catastrophic. The club were preliminarily relegated to the second division of French football due to the poor financial management of the club. The only hope that remained for the Ligue 1 club was the possibility of an appeal.
As Lyon prepared for the appeal with the DNCG, John Textor stepped back from his position as the club’s president, and OL Lyonnes president, Kang, was appointed as his successor. Her primary mission was to launch a successful appeal, and she was successful alongside General Manager Michael Gerlinger.
Commenting on how they managed to reverse the decision of relegation, the businesswoman said, “It concerned the available cash flow, new liquidity contributions, and guarantees in case our cash flow became negative. On these three components, we have met their requirements.”
