Dino Toppmöller, Ansgar Knauff and Hugo Ekitiké with the reaction to the 2-2 draw against FC Augsburg.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We’ve tried to shake a lot of busy weeks out of our legs and had a good start to the game. We had good energy on the pitch, without creating chances from it. After the opening goal, we had a good spell with a lot of moments. The equaliser came out of nothing. Then we’re trailing against a team who defend in a very disciplined way. The goals we conceded were avoidable. The way we bounced back was great and at the end we could and maybe should have won it. I told the team I’m proud of their performance in the second half, even though it wasn’t the result we wanted. Nevertheless, we look at the table with pride – we’re second with 27 points.”
Ansgar Knauff: “Overall it was a pretty decent performance; we implemented a lot of the things we set out to do, we just lost the ball too easily in some moments – myself included. That allowed Augsburg back into the game. They got in front of goal twice and scored twice, which is frustrating. It annoys us that the game briefly got away from us after taking the lead. Maybe we didn’t have that final bit of luck in attack for the ball to go in, because we created enough chances to win.”
Hugo Ekitiké: “I briefly blacked out after the collision but it was soon all okay again. We didn’t win, unfortunately. We’re disappointed, we want to win every match. We had good energy but there was something missing – little details, the final pass, the final touch. We have to keep going.”
