Speaking to journalists remotely ahead of Olympique de Marseille’s crunch Champions League clash against Lille on Sunday evening, coach Roberto De Zerbi has said he believes his side ‘deserves the Champions League’, having spent the majority of the season in second spot in Ligue 1. “I believe in hard work and merit. I don’t like getting things I don’t deserve,” De Zerbi said at a video press conference transcribed by RMC Sport. “I’ve always come out and spoken honestly after defeats. (…) When it comes to the Champions League, I think we deserve to be there. We’re in second place. But the league isn’t over yet.”Les Olympiens have seemingly got over their run-in bump, reacting to defeats to Monaco, Reims, and PSG with goal-laden wins over Toulouse, Montpellier, and Stade Brestois. Yet OM are only one point ahead of Nice and Strasbourg, who have won their respective games already this weekend. Monaco could level Les Olympiens this evening if they win their match against Saint-Étienne this evening. GFFN | George Boxall
