Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong turned down the opportunity to hoist aloft the Spanish Super Cup trophy as part of his side’s celebrations last night.
As much has been confirmed courtesy of a round of footage from the game’s aftermath.
Barcelona, of course, are fresh off an evening to remember on Sunday, which saw them put arch rivals Real Madrid to the sword by five goals to two in the finale of the Supercopa.
Following the full-time whistle in Jeddah, Hansi Flick’s squad were therefore presented with the prestigious Super Cup trophy.
The aforementioned De Jong, as one of Barcelona’s captaincy group, was asked by his teammates to take his place at the forefront of the celebrations for the trophy lift.
The Dutchman, however, after not playing a single minute, evidently felt it only right to reject this offer.
De Jong, in turn, stayed put on the side of the group, as fellow captains Marc-André ter Stegen, Pedri, Raphinha and Ronald Araújo took their respective places front and centre:
