Kyle Walker was announced by AC Milan last night, becoming the first signing of the January window, and the right-back was delighted after signing the contract. In an interview, he explained why he decided to join the club.
After almost eight years at Manchester City, Walker decided to say goodbye and Milan quickly jumped on the opportunity, beating the competition with ease. As confirmed in the official statement, the full-back has joined the club on loan with the option to buy.
Following the announcement, Walker spoke to MilanTV (via MilanNews) and also published a message on his Twitter profile. He explained the decision to join the Rossoneri, highlighting the history of the club, and also revealed why he chose the number 32 for his shirt.
On the move…
“I’m delighted and proud to sign for AC Milan! A club with such rich history, one I’ve followed since I was a kid. It’s an honour to join and I can’t wait to pull on the Rossoneri shirt and get started.
“I’m very much looking forward to this new chapter in my career and to beginning this journey with my family in Italy. Forza Milan!”
Why he decided to join the club…
“Tammy [Abraham] told me that I should come, he helped me make a decision. The fans here are incredible, hearing them sing, and feeling their support means a lot and it will be a great boost until the end of the season.”
On the shirt number…
“I chose the number 32 for David Beckham, an icon in our country.”
Walker’s first game will be the derby against Inter next week as he isn’t in the Champions League squad, thus unavailable for the crucial game against Dinamo Zagreb. Depending on how he does in training next week, Sergio Conceicao might consider starting him in the derby.
