Waldemar Anton is determined to win titles with Borussia Dortmund, but knows that they must trust the process and find some consistency before that.
Borussia Dortmund beat out interest from several top clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, to sign Waldemar Anton from VfB Stuttgart this past summer. The centre-back has already cemented himself as a regular in the BVB starting XI and made 12 appearances for club and country before picking up a muscle injury late last month.
Now fit again, Anton will hope to bring some stability and leadership to the Borussia Dortmund defence that has struggled time and again this season. In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, the 28 year old spoke about BVB being a work in progress after another upheaval this past summer.
"We are in a development process, a new coaching team has arrived, the team has a new composition, we want to play football differently. It's a process that requires patience. I also know that we don't have much time. We've already shown what we're capable of. But we have to bring that to the pitch consistently, that is also our aim."
Anton also commented on what its like to play under Nuri Sahin, and hailed the BVB head coach for the way he deals with different players. "Our coach is great! He's sometimes very calm, then emotional again. He works very, very hard. He talks a lot and is also very good at dealing with different players. That's a very important character trait. We now have to make sure that we become more consistent and win away games."
Despite calling for patience, Anton has high aims and wants to win trophies at Borussia Dortmund. But he also knows that they must first find some consistency.
"I've always wanted to win titles. To achieve that with BVB would be a dream! But at this stage, we have to focus on ourselves. We have to become better and more consistent in our performances. Then we can take the next step."
Borussia Dortmund have seven more games to play in a four-week before the Bundesliga takes a winter break. The Black and Yellows currently find themselves in seventh place in the Bundesliga standings.
