Newcastle United have agreed a deal to part ways with forgotten goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
According to BBC, the 31-year-old shot stopper is set to join Sevilla on a season-long loan, with the deal expected to be finalised later this week.
Vlachodimos has already approved the move and is expected to travel to Spain to complete his medical at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
The Greece international has endured a frustrating spell in the Premier League and will welcome the chance to get a much-needed fresh start in Spain.
Newcastle forked out £20 million to sign Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest at the start of last season.
English midfielder Elliot Anderson moved in the opposite direction for around £35m, with both sides looking to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
However, the experienced goalkeeper hardly got a look in throughout his spell at St James’ Park.
He made just one competitive appearance and struggled to replace Nick Pope as manager Eddie Howe’s first-choice shot stopper.
His chances of working his way back into the manager’s plans were effectively buried last week when the Magpies signed Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton.
That move rendered Vlachodimos surplus to requirements, but he has now been handed an olive branch.
Sevilla’s interest couldn’t have come at a better time for the Greek keeper.
The Andalusian outfit have been in the market for a new keeper ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga season, and Vlachodimos fits the profile they’re looking for.
They have now agreed an initial loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Vlachodimos’ exit will create more space in Newcastle’s squad, but at the moment, the club is focused on sorting out their issues at the top end of the pitch.
