Vincenzo Montella had been very close to joining Roma in the last few days.
The former Giallorossi striker had expressed interest in coaching Roma following the dismissal of Ivan Juric.
According to Corriere della Sera, Montella was very close to returning to the Roma bench.
However, his current role as Turkey coach was an insurmountable obstacle.
There were two Nations League games to honour, a release clause of one and a half million euros and the intransigence of the Istanbul Football Federation that ultimately prevented his return from happening.
As a result, Roma focused on the return of Claudio Ranieri who will be joining the club for the third time in his career.
