Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres scored one goal and created two more as Sporting clocked up a fourth successive win to secure their position at the top of the table with a 3-1 triumph over Famalicão in Lisbon tonight.
It was an explosive start to the match as a brilliant run and cross by Gyökeres inside the first minute set up Trincão, who completely missed his kick but the onrushing Fresneda saved his blushes by drilling into the net on the run.
Famalicão gathered themselves and showed why they have been in good form lately, pushing Sporting back with Gustava Sá at the heart of most of their enterprising play. When Óscar Aranda equalised from the penalty spot after Diomande had fouled Václav Sejk it was no more than the visitors deserved.
The Lions came out fired up for the second half and their pressure told when Maxi Araújo was upended in the box and Gyökeres fired in the penalty.
However, Sporting were far from home and hosed, especially when Araújo was shown a straight red card for a bad challenge on Sá with ten minutes remaining. The home fans could breathe a sigh of relief in the 88th minute when a fine move allowed Gyökeres to tee up substitute Geny Catamo for a tap-in and make sure of the three points.
