Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has responded to suggestions that the club is pursuing Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

At the moment, De Ligt appears to be United’s priority defensive target as moves for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro stall.

It was stated that the Red Devils established contact with De Ligt’s camp to declare their interest in him. The Dutchman is thought to be eager to complete a switch to the Red Devils and reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The two of course worked together to great success at Ajax.

There’s a belief that United have offered De Ligt a five-year contract. Meanwhile, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Bayern want around €50m including add-ons to let De Ligt leave the Allianz Arena and move to England.

United certainly seem to be ramping up their movements in the market and this is something Hojlund was asked about by Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

In particular, Plettenberg asked Hojlund about De Ligt.

Plettenberg quizzed the United forward, “Our exclusive news is that Matthijs de Ligt is in contact with Manchester United. Would you love to see him playing with you next year?”

Hojlund cleverly replied, “That has nothing to do with me, so I can’t answer that question, but he is a good defender.”

On the club’s decision to stick with Ten Hag, Hojlund remarked, “Very happy [with Ten Hag staying]. He’s a very good coach and I loved working with him this year and looking forward to many more next year.”

When put to the task regarding what he aims to achieve in the new campaign, Hojlund revealed, “Become even better, score even more goals and hopefully we can win another trophy.”

Hojlund’s comments came soon after Denmark were dumped out of Euro 2024 by Germany on Saturday. Denmark were beaten 2-0 with Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala both finding the back of the net in the second half of proceedings.
