Chelsea’s academy is such a production line of talent that it’s sometimes difficult to keep up. By the time you’ve watched Alfie Gilchrist and Bashir Humphreys graduate and head off into the senior game, the next on the conveyor belt is already closing in.

Josh Acheampong is a defender with perhaps even more potential than either of those. He’s been brilliant through Chelsea’s youth teams, and now gets the nod for England U19s, where he put in a stellar showing in a 3-2 friendly defeat to Germany.

His class on the ball, his calmness and his physical gifts are there for all to see. It looks like “La Cobham” has done it again. Before long Acheampong will be ready for a loan too, and we can’t wait to see him in action.
