Josh Acheampong filled in in the middle of defence today with Chelsea struggling with injuries in that position, and the defender spoke to Chelsea at full time about how he felt he had got on.

It was a real battle for Chelsea today against a well organised and physical Palace team who had them on the back foot pretty regularly.
“We played well, we had a lot of chances and if we’d taken them we would have won,” the defender said, backing up what his goalkeeper had already gold the media.
“They’re a physical team, quite compact so it’s hard to play through, but we created a lot of chances altogether.”
Manager Enzo Maresca praised Acheampong as “very good” for his performance today.
As well as making just his 3rd career Premier League start, Acheampong was also playing in the centre of defence. He did it a bit last week in our friendly games against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, and has done it in a slightly different way at youth level, but it was a whole different ball game today against a very physical team.
“It’s a good role, it’s a lot more chilled and relaxed. I’m getting used to it, it’s new, it’s different. The more I play it the better I get about it,” Acheampong said.
“The academy philosophy is to play forward, break lines, so I just try to take into first team as well.”
He is representing Cobham so well – physically, tactically and technically elite at 19 and more than capable of stepping up to the first team with ease.
