Blackburn Rovers endured an up-and-down 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Despite suffering an eight-game winless run that crept into early April, Rovers only finished two points and one place off the play-offs.
John Eustace’s departure in February was the latest controversy during the Venky family’s almost 15-year tenure as Blackburn Rovers owners, 12 months after Jon Dahl Tomasson departed after growing frustrated with the club’s transfer strategy.
The fanbase have also had enough of their ownership, which has led to protests and a persistent negative atmosphere around Ewood Park.
Football League World’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Simon Middlehurst, is hoping for the club’s leadership to change hands, but doesn’t think it is very likely.
“I think we'll be stuck with the Venky's for a long time yet,” stated Simon. “It's very clear that they've got no interest in selling the club.
“If they did, I do believe that they'd want to get all the money back that they've invested and over 10 to 15 years they've invested over £300, £400 million.
“No one's going to want to buy Blackburn for that much money, so I think that for the time being, despite all the protests from the fans and the supporters groups, they're not going anywhere.
“We're going to be stuck with them for a long time I do believe. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I can't see them going anywhere anytime soon.”
Despite finishing so close to the top six, Rovers suffered some worrying periods of form last term.
Blackburn lost 18 Championship matches, two more than Lancashire rivals Preston North End, who finished just one point clear of relegation in 20th.
Valerien Ismael took charge of 12 games as Rovers manager but could only win four of those, and didn’t manage to capture the hearts and minds of the Ewood Park faithful.
However, those victories all came consecutively, and the Lancashire side ended the season unbeaten in five.
This unpredictable form can prove exciting at times but not encouraging for a promotion challenge next year.
Rovers are yet to recruit any new players and could still lose first-team trio Tyrhys Dolan, Danny Batth and Andi Weimann, who are all set to leave the club this summer.
The sales of Adam Wharton and Sammie Szmodics in recent times have brought in a sizeable amount of capital, but the Venky’s have only allowed a fraction of that money to be reinvested back into the squad.
That isn’t expected to change this summer, and the Blackburn Rovers fanbase will be anxiously anticipating another window of disappointment come deadline day in September.
