Matchday 20 of the 2025 MLS season has wrapped up this evening after closing the book on the final two fixtures of the weekend across the United States and Canada.

Here is how it all went down in Columbus and Los Angeles featuring some of the heavyweights in the league.

Vancouver fights for three points in SoCal

Normal service resumed for Western Conference upstarts Vancouver Whitecaps thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over LAFC at BMO Stadium.

After dropping out of the top spot in the West due in part to the red-hot form of San Diego FC, Jesper Sørensen was hoping for a performance from the Whitecaps tonight, with a goal in the 20th minute from Emmanuel Sabbi getting them off on the right foot.

LAFC would be unable to return to equal footing before the half-time interval despite owning the lion's share of possession on their home patch, with Steve Cherundolo's side maintaining that trend after the interval.

Shouts for a penalty in the 58th minute for a possible foul on star man Denis Bouanga would be turned away after the Gabonese winger danced his way into the penalty area, with LAFC working through all five changes by the 60th minute, including subbing off Olivier Giroud in his final appearance for the Black and Gold.

The SoCal side hit another gear in the final 20 minutes and came close to bagging a match-tying strike courtesy of Ryan Hollingshead, but his well-struck effort could only ring off the bar from a tight angle.

With a trio of stars missing out due to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Vancouver struggled to alleviate the continued pressure with limited ventures forward but would ultimately hang on to all three points on their travels while ending their two-match losing run.

Farsi's strike ends Philly's unbeaten run

Eastern Conference powerhouse Columbus Crew banked a massive home result tonight after a narrow 1-0 win over pack-leading Philadelphia Union.

Across what was a dull yet dominant opening 45 minutes of action at Lower.com Field, the Crew took a justifiable 1-0 lead on the stroke of halftime after Mo Farsi's marauding run to the back post was picked out by Lassi Lappalainen for the Algerian to slot past Andre Blake.

After a severe weather delay, a running theme across competitive football this summer, play resumed in Columbus as Wilfried Nancy's men remained largely on the front foot as the hour mark came and went.

Despite a few changes, including introducing teenage talents Cavan Sullivan and Sal Olivas, Philly headmaster Bradley Carnell could not rewrite the script and find an equalizer before the full-time whistle.

With that, the Crew ended the Union's 11-match unbeaten run, while closing the gap to the Eastern Conference leaders to just three points.
