Men’s Soccer wraps up on Tuesday

The Dominican Republic and United States men’s national teams enter the third and final matchday of the group stage on Tuesday, hoping to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.

Playing to extend its debut campaign, the Dominican Republic meets Uzbekistan at the Parc des Princes in Paris as part of the first matches of the day.

The Caribbean nation, which holds one point, needs to win its match and have Spain victorious over better Egypt and better the latter on goal difference to advance as the second-place team in Group C.

A victory for the Dominican Republic would mark a first for the nation and a landmark result. Edison Azcona, who has scored the nation’s only goal at the Olympics, will not be available after sustaining a red card in the previous match.

The United States will conclude the group stage against Guinea at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in St-Etienne, France. A victory or draw could assure the nation a spot in the quarterfinals, depending on other results.

Team USA rebounded with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand to gain its first three points of the 2024 games. The result marked a first win for the U.S. men after a 16-year absence at the Summer Olympics.

Djordje Mihailovic, Walker Zimmerman, Gianluca Busio, and Paxten Aaronson scored for the U.S. men in the previous match. Mihailovic and Zimmerman became the first overage players to score for the U.S. at the Olympics.
