US Open Cup: Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes reach quarterfinals | OneFootball

The 2025 US Open Cup has its first quarterfinalists, with Chicago Fire FC and the San Jose Earthquakes respectively eliminating the New England Revolution and the Portland Timbers Tuesday night in the opening Round of 16 fixtures.

Eleven more MLS clubs are in action Wednesday in the tournament that awards a 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup spot, prize money and silverware.

New England Revolution 1, Chicago Fire FC 3

Head coach Gregg Berhalter put out a near first-choice starting XI for the Fire's visit to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, and his star players responded with a 3-1 win over the Revolution.

Jonathan Bamba caused an Eric Klein own goal to open the score in the 38th minute. During the second half, fellow Designated Player Hugo Cuypers padded the lead before Philip Zinckernagel came off the bench to score a banger.

Chris Brady's clean sheet was denied one minute from full-time after a Justin Reynolds own goal.

San Jose Earthquakes 1, Portland Timbers 0 (ET)

With the game on the verge of penalty kicks, San Jose broke a scoreless deadlock in the 116th minute to sneak past Portland at PayPal Park.

Jack Skahan poked Mark-Anthony Kaye's shot into the back of the net to score the 1-0 winner and give the Earthquakes passage into the next round.
