In a recent report on Patreon (subscription required), journalist Alan Nixon offered an update on Liverpool and their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. It has been claimed that the Reds are planning to use Ben Doak as a makeweight in a deal to land the English centre-back in this summer transfer period.
The 24-year-old was a rock at the back for Crystal Palace in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive performances for them in the Premier League. Guehi played in 44 matches for the London outfit last season, scoring three times and earning a couple of assists in multiple competitions.
The English talent was a top performer at Selhurst Park as he made 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from inside his half, based on his pass success rate of 83.5% in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the London club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Liverpool could potentially land him on a cut-price deal this summer.

Guehi is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to earn possession back for his side on the defensive third of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer of the ball as well. However, standing at 1.82m, Guehi can be a weak presence in the air.
The English defensive ace has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Merseyside club.
Guehi would undoubtedly bring more quality to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s defence. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting place at Anfield next season.
At 24, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent fit for Liverpool’s needs this summer. He might even help the Merseyside outfit compete for a lot of major honours in the coming years. Therefore, the Reds should consider trying everything in their power to bring Guehi to Merseyside in this transfer window.
