Manchester United have been granted a free run at signing Bryan Mbeumo despite a short-lived hijack attempt from Tottenham Hotspur.
After the London outfit appointed Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s successor last week, reports suggested Mbeumo had grown intrigued at the prospect of reuniting with the coach he’s played under for the last five years in a new environment at Spurs.
Frank, meanwhile, was keen to add his trusted lieutenant, whom he hailed as ‘incredible’ last season, to his ranks to help kickstart his reshuffle, throwing United’s pursuit into doubt.

INEOS can now breathe a sigh of relief, though, as transfer reporter Rudy Galetti has revealed Spurs have ‘cooled their interest’ in Mbeumo due to his sights being set on an Old Trafford switch.
The Europa League winners concede that it would be ‘almost impossible’ to change his mind, hence deciding to drop out of the race entirely and pursue alternative targets.
In the meantime, there’s still work to do from United’s end.
They saw their opening bid of £45 million plus £10m in add-ons rebuffed by Brentford before the window reopened on Monday and are yet to return with an improved proposal.
The Bees are adamant they will not accept any lowballing offers, especially after seeing the Red Devils activate Matheus Cunha’s release clause, worth £62.5m.
Mbeumo is on the back of a career-best campaign in 2024/2025, having notched a hugely impressive 20 goals and eight assists. His availability will also undoubtedly appeal to Ruben Amorim, as the Cameroonian international started every single Premier League fixture and played the full 90 minutes in all but one match away to Fulham, in which he played 87 minutes.
