While there have been numerous links between Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye and Porto, the majority of them have come from Spain. In Portugal, doubt is being cast on the likelihood of the transfer going through.
Faye was reportedly on his way to Porto for €15m this week, and the Senegalese defender has seemingly given the green light for the deal to go through. However reports in Portugal say that Porto are not keen on spending that much, and any fee would be closer to €5m, while also assuring that no official contact has taken place between the clubs themselves, but rather agent Juanma Lopez.
On the other hand, The Athletic are reporting that Barcelona are keen to bring in €20m before the end of the month and the closure of their accounts for the 2023-24 season. They seem likely to bring in €6m from Marc Guiu, and it is not clear whether the €8m they will receive from Chadi Riad’s move from Real Betis to Crystal Palace is alraeady included in that figure.
Nevertheless if the Faye deal does not go through, then it would leave Barcelona scrambling to make that figure by Sunday. A board meeting will be held on Thursday afternoon, where the Blaugrana are hoping to close two deals with American investors to cover the payments that will not be made for Barca Vision. For several months now though, sales have been spoken about as a ‘necessity’ for Barcelona this summer.
