Filip and Aleksandar Stankovic have been shining on loan at Venezia and Luzern, and could very well have futures at Inter Milan.
Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, highlight the upward trajectories of the two sons of legendary former Nerazzurri midfielder Dejan Stankovic.
It is no coincidence that Filip and Aleksandar Stankovic came through Inter’s youth academy system.
The pair of Serbian youth team internationals are both sons of former midfielder Dejan Stankovic.
Dejan had a sparkling career in Serie A with Lazio and then Inter. He spent a decade with the Nerazzurri, where he left his biggest mark.
Stankovic played a huge role in Inter’s famous European Treble win during the 2009-10 season.
Therefore, it always made sense that the Serb’s sons would get the chance to come through Inter’s academy system.
But at the same time, that certainly does not mean that Filip and Aleksandar have not justified their place.
On the contrary. Both showed great promise in Inter’s youth teams, right up to the Primavera or Under-19 level.
In fact, in the case of Aleksandar, the teenager even captained the Primavera team.
But both Filip and Aleksandar were always going to have to go elsewhere to spread their wings in senior football.
In the case of goalkeeper Filip, he has been out on a few different loan moves.
During the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, the young Serb was on loan at Volendam in the Netherlands.
When Stankovic (along with Inter teammate Gaetano Oristanio) arrived at Volendam, they were in the Dutch second division.
But Stankovic helped the team to promotion to the Eredivisie right away.
Moreover, in their first season in the Dutch top flight, Stankovic was one of Volendam’s outstanding players as they successfully kept themselves in the division.
Last season, Stankovic was out on loan at Sampdoria in Serie B. This was a big step for him, as it gave the young Serb his first senior experience in Italian football.
Filip shone for the Blucerchiati, although this was not enough to get them to Serie A.
Sampdoria may not have won promotion to the top flight. But that does not mean that Stankovic did not earn a place in Serie A.
Venezia signed the Inter keeper on loan during the summer transfer window.
The Lagunari have a purchase option. However, there is a feeling that if Venezia do not keep themselves in Serie A, then they will not sign Stankovic on a permanent basis.
And that might not be such a bad thing for Inter. Stankovic’s performances in Serie A have been enough to suggest that he could even have a future at his parent club.
Not least, Stankovic’s excellent display in a recent 1-0 Inter win against Venezia.
Meanwhile, Aleksandar Stankovic has been out on loan with Luzern in Switzerland.
And this has proven to be the right place for the 19-year-old to take his first steps in senior football.
Stankovic has been one of Luzern’s outstanding performers so far this season.
The Serb has transferred his form from Inter’s Primavera side to the senior level seamlessly.
Therefore, it is hardly unthinkable that Aleksandar could vie for a place at Inter in the future.
