Two former Chelsea head coaches are now in talks to become the next permanent England manager, according to a report this week.

As we know, former England U21 boss Lee Carsley is currently the interim manager of the senior team after Gareth Southgate left his post this summer. Carsley’s interview for the full time job as England manager is happening as we speak in the shape of managing actual games, and he has played two and won two so far.

But despite him being the favourite still, according to The Telegraph at least, the FA are speaking to other potential candidates as well.

Lampard and Potter on the radar

Carsley’s audition

Frank Lampard would be a popular choice I reckon, and he would certainly get my sign off for it. Graham Potter I think would be a decent shout as well. Eddie Howe is also mentioned and I would rate that appointment too.

The report says Carsley is currently considered the favourite to permanently succeed Gareth Southgate, but the FA is keen to explore all options before making a final decision.

The FA has spoken to a wide variety of managers.

Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard remain on the FA’s radar, while some Telegraph sources still claim that Pep Guardiola would be its dream appointment.

So I guess we just need to wait and see what happens here.

Lampard for me is the best choice, but yes, I am probably very biased here. I just think he would be very suited to this role.
