Wolfsburg and Burnley are making progress as they battle it out to sign Norwich City's Josh Sargent.

Norwich City have yet to agree a deal with any club for Josh Sargent, although Wolfsburg and Burnley are ‘getting closer’ to the valuation of the striker.

Even though the Canaries endured a miserable previous campaign, as they missed out on a play-off spot, it was a good season for Sargent on a personal basis.

The USA international managed 15 goals in 32 appearances, and Norwich will wonder how the season could’ve played out had he been fit and available for all 46 games.

Josh Sargent transfer latest as Burnley and Wolfsburg target striker

Failure to win promotion meant keeping Sargent at Carrow Road was always going to be a long shot for the Norfolk outfit, and whilst he is still at the club, it appears a move is on the cards.

That’s after journalist Samuel Seaman revealed that both Burnley and Wolfsburg are ‘getting closer’ to reaching an agreement for the 25-year-old, who is also on the radar of Leeds United as well.

It’s unclear whether those two clubs are willing to meet Norwich’s demands, with reports stating that the Championship side are holding out for £20m for their star man.

Norwich City must stand firm on Josh Sargent valuation

Norwich are in a strong position here, as Sargent is under contract with the club until the summer of 2028, so they have no pressure to sell.

Plus, Borja Sainz’s switch to Porto, for a fee in excess of £14m, means they have already brought big-money to the club this summer.

That doesn’t mean that they won’t sell Sargent, and it would make sense to let a player go if he wants to leave, but it does ensure they hold a lot of the cards in the negotiations.

Whether they get £20m is unknown, but top Championship players have gone for that number in the past, and the ex-Werder Bremen man has shown he belongs in that category with his performances.

With this rumbling on in the background, it’s important Norwich have replacements lined up, and know where they need to strengthen with the potential funds.

The arrival of Kvistgaarden is a major coup, but Sargent moving on would result in at least one more attacker coming through the door, and he will be difficult to replace.
