The 26-year-old described it as a “dream come true” as he was presented at Real Madrid
Trent Alexander-Arnold was officially presented as a Real Madrid on Thursday and impressed by delivering a speech in Spanish.
The right-back has joined the LaLiga side as a free agent after leaving Liverpool, with a deal agreed between the two clubs to enable him to feature at the Club World Cup this summer.
Alexander-Arnold will wear the number 12 shirt at Real Madrid with ‘Trent’ on the back, after signing a six-year contract.
As is tradition for Real Madrid signings, Alexander-Arnold posed for pictures at his medical before being joined by his family for the presentation.
A montage of his best moments in a Liverpool shirt was shown before club president Florentino Perez welcomed him to a “great family”.
Alexander-Arnold then took centre stage and surprisingly gave his entire speech in fluent Spanish.
“Thank you Florentino Perez and the club for this opportunity,” Alexander-Arnold said.
“Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn’t happen every day. It’s a dream come true.
“I feel incredibly happy and proud to be here. I can’t wait to show all the Madridistas my football and give everything for this badge.
"I’m aware that playing for Real Madrid comes with great responsibility, and I’m ready to give everything for the team and for the Madridistas.
"I want to show my game, win many titles, become a champion, grow, and enjoy every moment alongside the best players in the world.
"Thank you, and Hala Madrid!"
Alexander-Arnold later gave a press conference in which he answered questions in English, and said he had been learning Spanish for “a few months”.
The defender also said it was a day he had been “waiting for a long time”, but later clarified that comment.
“To clear that up, by waiting a long time I mean a couple of weeks,” Alexander-Arnold said. “Not years.
"But I am very excited be here. Whether you support the club or not, you have to respect the trophies that the club win. No matter what, that has been always there for me. I have always admired players and clubs that win trophies."
