The Liga MX Clausura clash between América and Necaxa has been temporarily delayed after an unexpected transformer issue resulted in a power outage at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
After jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first half, Necaxa lost all momentum as play was stopped by match official Óscar Mejía García in the 33rd minute, with fans around the ground turning on the lights of their mobile phones to illuminate the pitch.
Players from both clubs remained on, however, passing back and forth to keep some measure of match sharpness as technical crews worked feverishly to restore normal operations.
All power was eventually restored and a staggering 35 minutes of additional was added before the interval, but for just a moment, perhaps the powers of the universe intervened to set the atmosphere on Valentine's Day night.
