Tottenham may have two of the best centre-backs in the world, but their ongoing injury concerns have left Spurs looking for more depth at the back.

There’s a fresh sense of optimism at the club under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou following a stunning victory over Manchester City.

However, despite this, the club’s injury woes continue to worry supporters, leaving them wondering if anyone will be able to step up and cover these absences in the future.

While Romero and Van de Ven remain the preferred pairing in central defence under Ange Postecoglou, their injury issues have raised doubts about their reliability.

Romero's latest absence, confirmed ahead of the Europa League match against Roma, is just the latest example of the recurring fitness problems that have plagued the Argentine.

In light of this and suggested by Tottenham News, Jun'Ai Byfield, a 15-year-old defender, could be the club's answer for the future.

Already an established player in Tottenham’s Under-18s, Byfield is showing great promise and has even trained with the first-team squad.

In the absence of both first-choice defenders, Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin were tasked with the responsibility in the 4-0 win over Manchester City, but Tottenham fans know that these players aren’t long-term solutions for the club’s defensive needs.

Although Byfield is still years away from making a senior appearance, his potential has caught the eye of many at the club.

Tottenham’s current lack of depth in the centre-back position means that Byfield could find himself playing a key role in the coming years.

Byfield's promising future at Tottenham

Tottenham has recognised Byfield's talent and is already taking steps to secure his future at the club.

The teenager, who is regarded as one of the best in his age group in England, has reportedly been offered a two-year scholarship to join the Under-18s for the upcoming season.

Byfield's impressive performances have made him one to watch, and Spurs are keen to ensure that he continues to develop within their ranks.

With Davies and others stepping in when needed, Byfield’s development will be critical for the team’s long-term plans.

For now, Byfield’s focus will remain on his growth within the youth teams. However, with the current injury issues facing the senior defenders, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the talented 15-year-old gain more first-team experience in the near future.
