Postecoglou described it as “an honour” to share a dressing room with the Spurs midfielder

Yves Bissouma has shared his text exchange with Ange Postecoglou after the Australian was sacked as Tottenham manager.

Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy since 2008 by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final last month, but it was not enough for him to keep his job.

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League and on Friday the club announced the decision to sack Postecoglou, stating they could not make a decision based on "emotions aligned to [the Europa League] triumph".

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the favourite to replace Postecoglou, with it looking increasingly likely that a deal will be agreed with the Bees to bring him to north London.

Postecoglou was a popular figure among the Spurs players and many have taken to social media to pay tribute to his impact at the club.

Guglielmo Vicario described him as an “incredible person”, while Heung-min Son insisted that Postecoglou has “changed the trajectory of this club” and will be a “Tottenham Hotspur legend forever”.

Bissouma posted his own lengthy message on Instagram and has now added to that by sharing a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation he had with Postecoglou.

The Australian wrote: "Hi Biss. Sorry I missed your call. I am very proud of you.

“It was an honour to share a dressing room with you and appreciate how much you believed in what we were trying to achieve. I wish you only the best for the future. I will always be following. Much love from my family to yours."

Bissouma responded: "Thank you, gaffer, and thank you really much for everything you did for me on and off the pitch.

“I'll always be grateful. The way you believed [in] me and trusted me was incredible. I'm gonna miss you, but it's football life... I think you know what I'm thinking about you already, so I'm just wishing you all the best for the future and may God protect you and your family #bigboss love."

Postecoglou added: “"Always by your side Biss."
