The 27-year-old arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the morning but was subsequently sent home by manager Ange Postecoglou after falling ill in the lead-up to the match.

Captain Heung-min Son leads the line for Spurs in Solanke’s absence, with German winger Timo Werner taking Son’s usual position on the left flank.

Dejan Kulusevski has been named on the bench, but is also not nursing an injury and instead being rested by his manager.

Postecoglou said ahead of the match: "He came in today and he wasn't the best, under the weather. We sent him home and hopefully he'll make a full recovery and be ready to go for the next one."

Solanke’s absence against Fulham is a blow for Spurs, who have lost two of their last three meetings with Marco Silva’s side.

But Tottenham are hopeful the England striker will be fit for Thursday’s trip to the Vitality Stadium when Spurs take on Solanke’s former team, Bournemouth, in the Premier League.

Solanke has scored six goals and registered three assists in 17 appearances since leaving the Cherries to join Spurs for £65million this summer.

His form in the early months of his time at Tottenham earned him an England recall this autumn, with his only previous call-up and cap having come in November 2017.
