Tottenham Hotspur are facing a key decision regarding Alejo Veliz, the young Argentine striker whose loan spell at Espanyol has not gone as planned.
Veliz, who arrived at Spurs with high expectations, has encountered challenges in adapting to European football, sparking speculation about his immediate future.
Since joining Tottenham in August 2023, the 21-year-old has been viewed as a promising talent.
However, recent developments have raised questions about whether his current loan arrangement is the best route for his development.

Reports suggest Tottenham are weighing their options, with Veliz’s potential still evident despite his struggles.
This decision could shape his career trajectory and influence Spurs’ plans for their attacking lineup.
Alejo Veliz joined Tottenham from Rosario Central in a £13 million deal, but his transition to European football has been anything but smooth.
Currently on loan at Espanyol, the striker has struggled for consistent game time, sitting as an unused substitute in four of the last seven La Liga matches.
In 16 appearances this season across La Liga and the Copa del Rey, Veliz has scored four goals.
However, his recent lack of opportunities has raised concerns about the effectiveness of his loan spell. John Wenham, a Spurs insider, believes a recall is imminent.
"I expect that Veliz will be sent back from his loan. I think that might be announced within a couple of days. At that point, Tottenham will really need to decide what they want to do with him." Wenham told Tottenham News.
The insider also suggested that Veliz would benefit more from a loan move to an English club, where he could adapt to the physical and fast-paced nature of the Premier League.
This isn’t the first time Veliz has faced challenges on loan. His previous stint at Sevilla also failed to deliver the desired impact.
Despite scoring his first Spurs goal in December 2023 against Brighton, the young forward has yet to cement himself as a reliable option for Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
With Tottenham dealing with an injury-hit attacking lineup, the decision to recall Veliz could offer short-term reinforcements.
The long-term focus remains on ensuring the striker’s development aligns with the club’s ambitions.
