In a recent report, journalist Danny Rust revealed that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to land Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman on deadline day. However, Spurs failed to get a deal over the line for the Nigerian sensation.

Lookman’s Impressive Form In Serie A

Lookman enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Italian club recently as he was responsible for producing a series of eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 27-year-old banged in 20 goals and grabbed seven assists in 40 matches for Atalanta last season across all fronts.

The London-born talent led the line well for his current employers after he averaged 3.24 shots per 90 minutes in Serie A. He kept 39.5% of his attempts on target. Lookman even distributed the ball relatively well, based on his pass completion rate of 72.5% in the Italian top flight (stats via fbref.com).

Lookman is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027. Hence, Spurs would potentially land him on a cut-price deal next year.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Move In For Lookman This January?

Lookman has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker in the final third. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. Lookman deserves credit for adding a lot of goals and assists to his game last season.

The Nigerian talent is primarily a striker but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if told to do so. He has got some experience in the Premier League and is well-equipped to make an immediate impact at Tottenham if Spurs decide to get a deal done for him next year.

Lookman would no doubt add more goals to Thomas Frank’s first XI. He would even serve as an upgrade over Richarlison, who has struggled to be consistent during his time at the North London club.

At 27, Lookman is about to enter his prime, which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to consider next year. Thus, it is only logical for Frank to move in for a player of his quality this January or at the end of this campaign.
