In a recent report, Trivela claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Botafogo full-back Cuiabano. It has been mentioned that Spurs are facing competition from Manchester United and Bournemouth in the race to sign the Brazilian defender.
Cuiabano has produced a run of impressive displays for the Brazilian outfit over the past 12 months. The 22-year-old has made 50 senior appearances for Botafogo thus far, finding the back of the net six times and grabbing five assists across various competitions.
The Brazilian sensation has been a good defender at the back and deserves a ton of credit for making eight tackles, eight blocks and seven interceptions for Botafogo this season. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 70.2% in the Brazilian Serie A (stats via fbref.com).
Cuiabano’s current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2027. Thus, Spurs would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about landing the Brazilian defensive ace this summer.

Cuiabano is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
However, the Brazilian left-back has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to fulfill his potential. Furthermore, he might need some time to cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if Tottenham manage to sign him this summer.
Cuiabano would undoubtedly bring more quality to Ange Postecoglu’s backline. He is good enough to compete with Destiny Udogie for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
At 22, Cuiabano has the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a decent choice for the North London club in the long run. However, Postecoglu has to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the gifted full-back at Tottenham.
