Chelsea’s chase for former PSG standout Xavi Simons has hit a standstill. The club still needs to offload players who don’t have a future at Stamford Bridge, and that delay has opened the door for Tottenham Hotspur to make a move.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that RB Leipzig have accepted an €80 million bid for Simons, with €55 million to be paid upfront. The 22-year-old remains under contract with Leipzig until June 2027, while PSG smartly inserted a sell-on clause to guarantee a cut of any future deal.
That strategy has already paid dividends. As Adam Crafton of The Athletic noted, PSG pocketed €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s transfer to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.

SPORTBILD reports that Tottenham are “very serious” about signing Simons, with Spurs and RB Leipzig maintaining a strong working relationship, particularly between Daniel Levy and Oliver Mintzlaff.
The move still depends on convincing Simons, who currently earns €11 million a year and has significant salary demands. RB Leipzig are reportedly open to negotiating his sale.

According to TalkSPORT, RB Leipzig are hoping to secure £60 million and would welcome another bidding war for one of their top players.
Moreover, Simons is looking to leave the club this summer, and the report notes that he’s open to joining Tottenham, even though Chelsea has been his preferred destination all summer.
