Succeeding Carlo Ancelotti as the next manager of Real Madrid will not be easy, but the administration already have some names in mind as candidates who have a good chance of filling his shoes.

Xabi Alonso and Jurgen Klopp have emerged as strong candidates, but the former has always been the more preferred choice.

While still relatively new to the managerial field, Alonso has shown to possess everything Real Madrid are looking for in a new coach, right from his tactical ideas to his man management and composure with the press.

One step away

As relayed by Matteo Moretto in a recent report, Alonso is now just one step away from reaching an agreement with Real Madrid. He is thus closer than ever before.

The manager has already decided to make the switch to the Spanish capital and all that remains is for him to inform Bayer Leverkusen of his decision. He is expected to make progress on that front in the coming days.

With Alonso set to drop the bomb on the German club soon, his move to Real Madrid will be accelerated and an agreement can even be expected imminently.

All that remains to be negotiated, possibly, is the fee that Leverkusen will demand for Real Madrid to free the manager ahead of his contract. Perez was initially said to be reluctant to pay a fee, but it now appears he has changed his stance.

It remains uncertain when the new manager will be able to take over at Real Madrid, especially with Ancelotti set to leave before the Club World Cup. It is likely that he will join only after the event in the United States in time for next season.
