Birmingham City are showing extreme ambition ahead of their return to the Championship. The likes of Tommy Doyle, Kyogo Furuhashi and Demarai Gray have all arrived as the Blues look to challenge at the top end of the second tier.

However, Football League World's Birmingham Fan Pundit Jason believes that there is still one area that the club need to target as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.

Birmingham urged to sign winger with "real pace"

Speaking to Football League World, Jason was asked what one demand he would send to the club's owners with a month of the transfer window remaining, and he was adamant in his verdict: "It would be to go and get a really pacey right winger, who is also left-footed," said Jason.

"With our system, and our right back bombing forward, the right-winger operates further inside. And I want someone who has real pace, and a strong left foot to put tempting crosses in and get shots away."

Jason's thoughts echo similar concerns that he raised when speaking to FLW in June, saying then that: "Clubs might not play a low block every week like they did in League One, but you still want that option. We don't really have anyone who can take a man on and make something happen out wide."

Reiterating similar thoughts once again, Jason emphasised the need for something different in the final third for the Blues: "I also want someone who is a ball carrier and can get us up the pitch quickly," Jason said.

"We have got Demarai Gray on the left, so I would say go and get a right-winger who is a good carrier, who has pace, and preferably for me, is left-footed."

A new wide man could complement Demarai Gray's arrival

Manager Chris Davies has also stated the importance of signings this summer, outlining the aim to emerge from the window with a significantly stronger squad.

Speaking via Birmingham City's X account, he said: "It's all about can you come out of the window stronger than you went into it. When that first whistle blows, it's about having a squad that can be successful in the Championship.

Blues had been heavily linked with a move for Peterborough's Kwame Poku, however, the winger went on to join fellow Championship outfit QPR.

With Demarai Gray already secured for the left-hand side, a similar prospect out on the right could be hugely beneficial for Davies' side, particularly with the contrasting styles that Birmingham are set to face in the Championship this season.

Known for his pace and, at times, lethal right foot, a similar prospect on the opposite flank would add a whole new element to what is already an exciting attack at St Andrews.

Already showing heaps of ambition thus far in the window, Birmingham are set to have one of the league's strongest squads, and another electric wide man could be one of the final pieces of the jigsaw that boosts the club into the promotion race come May.
