Manchester United have made a major decision regarding their midfield department.

United have invested heavily on bolstering Ruben Amorim’s attack this summer, having handed the head coach Premier League-proven attackers, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

However, their midfield remains unchanged, meaning Amorim is likely to face the same issues he faced last season.

United lack a midfielder capable of dictating games. Now, one of their five central midfielders is set to be allowed to leave, and his exit may open doors to a much-needed change in the middle of the park.

Manchester United to send Collyer out on loan

According to the Manchester Evening News, Toby Collyer is set to leave United on loan this summer.

Collyer, who made his debut in the Community Shield last year, is very highly-rated at the club. United beat the likes of Chelsea and Brentford to sign him from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022.

In his early days at the club, Amorim often overlooked Casemiro in favour of Collyer. However, the youngster eventually fell down the pecking order after missing a number of games through injuries.

The report adds: “Sources say Collyer ‘has to go on loan’ for the benefit of his development and United are planning to okay a move, despite Collyer’s determination to challenge for a place.”

It is further claimed that United’s “intention to facilitate a loan move for Collyer is expected to clear the pathway for a midfield signing.”

Manchester United interested in Javi Guerra

United have been strongly linked with Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra in recent weeks.

Talks between the La Liga outfit and Guerra over a contract renewal have stalled, as the Spaniard and his camp feel Valencia’s proposal “doesn’t fit their needs.”

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder is thought to be open to joining the Red Devils and is reported to be valued at €27 million by Valencia.
