Out of contract in 2026, it is Lyon’s last chance to cash in on the two-footed attacking midfielder / forward.
French under-21 international Cherki first appeared on Liverpool’s radar ahead of the winter transfer window but he stayed put through that period.
But now, ahead of summer, he has again been suggested as a legitimate Liverpool target.
A report in FootMercato says the player’s preference is a move to the Premier League - but the Reds will have to see off interest from Borussia Dortmund and potentially Bayer Leverkusen.
“The trend is to join the Premier League, where several teams are attracted,” the report reads. “Liverpool, who like the player, are still there.
“In Germany, Borussia Dortmund is not giving up. But if BVB does not qualify for the next Champions League, it will be very difficult to attract him into their nets.
“Finally, he is on the list of players targeted by Bayer Leverkusen to replace Florian Wirtz. Xabi Alonso also greatly appreciates his profile, but he will not have control over recruitment at Real Madrid.”
