Our boys remained unbeaten for a 21st match against Austria Vienna to win the big match in Matchday 26 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. The entertaining away win sent Bidstrup & Co up to second place in the table.
Two months after our last win at Austria Vienna, our Red Bulls were again looking to land a big away win - with Alex Schlager back in goal. The goalkeeper had to watch as the hosts were the first to threaten via Malone, but his effort did not cause any trouble. We responded moments later with a Yorbe Vertessen shot that whizzed over Sahin-Radlinger's target (6').
Our brilliant Belgian went much better moments later when chipping over the opposing goalkeeper with an elegant finish following an ideal pass from Aleksa Terzic for 1-0 (8'). While a few spectators at the Generali Arena were still taking in the opening goal, the travelling fans from Salzburg were able to celebrate for a second time - as Dorgeles Nene received the ball and applied an acrobatic finish from another fine Terzic cross for an early 2-0 lead (11').
The hosts – who average 1.52 goals per match after 25 matches just like we do, knew they had to be more active now if they wanted a result. A well-timed pass from Fitz was taken by Malone at the far post, and he sent it straight past Schlager to make it 1-2 (17').
The game was more even now, but the highlights continued to come. Vertessen had a powerful effort (24'), and Moussa Yeo tried to pick his spot (32'), only for Stephan Helm's men to get a last-gasp block in both times. Malone then made us fret by heading into the crossbar (28'). Vertessen had the last effort in an entertaining first period, but his free-kick from the left hit the Violet wall (44').
The start of the second half saw today's VAR, Stefan Ebner, put through his paces - with two controversial moments coming within minutes. After both Barry (47') and Vinlöf (53') put the ball into the net, the goals were disallowed for offside, however.
Things would not get any easier for the VAR team. Samson Baidoo headed the ball straight in from a Valentin Sulzbacher corner, but that strike was also ruled out as the ball had already gone out on its way into the box. Then we made it 3-1 from a much-discussed penalty. Austria defender Prelec tripped Dorgeles Nene at full pelt – and Nene stepped up himself to send the goalkeeper the wrong way.
While the opening period had been packed with chances, the second half faded out somewhat, much to our pleasure. Yellow cards, substitutions and midfield challenges disrupted the flow, and few opportunities resulted. Our boys therefore took the win over the line for another hard-fought but important away win at Austria.
There is no time to celebrate that, however as on Wednesday the cup finalists from Wolfsberg are visiting the Red Bull Arena. The game starts at 18:30 Austian time, with tickets available still in our Online Ticket Shop!
It could have ended 6-4 today. It was great for any neutral spectators - a superb advert for football. A lot went right today, but Austria were really dangerous from set pieces. The bottom line is we deservedly won, even though both teams did a top job. The boys showed character, and I'm proud of that.

Things are building up in the championship group, and you could see that in the character of the match. After the defeat last week, we knew that we needed points today. We started the game well. There was a lot of the kind of entertainment that only a football match can provide. We put in a mature performance today. It's about taking points, and we can be rightfully proud of the win today. We are going in the right direction!
