Thomas Partey has been released on conditional bail. The former Arsenal and Ghanaian midfielder appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court this Tuesday, August 5, 2025, facing six charges. The hearing lasted less than fifteen minutes.
Partey is facing the British justice system in a high-profile case. The 32-year-old midfielder stands accused of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. These charges involve three different women and the alleged incidents are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his spell at Arsenal.
The hearing took place at Westminster court on Tuesday morning, amidst intense media scrutiny. Partey was not required to enter a plea at this initial appearance. The magistrates simply ensured he understood the charges brought against him and the conditions of his bail.
“Thomas Partey denies all allegations against him,” stated his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire.
The Ghana international's legal proceedings now take a new turn. According to English press, his case has been transferred to a higher criminal court for further proceedings. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 2 at the Old Bailey, one of London's most prominent criminal courts.
Partey's contractual situation further complicates his prospects. The former defensive midfielder has been a free agent since his contract with Arsenal expired on June 30. This free agent status comes just as he was reportedly close to signing with Villarreal in Spain. While the Yellow Submarine is expected to make a decision after today's developments, some fans are already voicing opposition given the ongoing legal proceedings. A petition is currently circulating to block the Ghanaian's signing.
