Arne Slot has warned his Liverpool players they must improve “a lot” if they are to come away with three points against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds host the Gunners at Anfield with both sides having won both of their first two games of the new campaign so far this season.

Slot, however, says his side will have to improve on their 3-2 win over Newcastle on Monday if they are to beat their title rivals, and highlighted Arsenal’s set-piece threat.

“The most simple answer is a lot, because we face a very strong team that was already really good last season and I think they’ve improved their squad a lot during the summer,” Slot said when asked how much his team need to improve.

“If you look at all the quality they have, but especially one thing that stands out in the season until now and what stands out in a negative way for us, is we’ve conceded, if I include the Bilbao game, from four set pieces.

“As we know, that’s one of their strengths, not THE strength but one of them, because they can play in multiple ways and you can see how well they are managed by Mikel, working for five years together. They can play almost every style there is in football and that tells you how well managed they are.”

Slot also pointed to the addition of Viktor Gyokeres as someone who has altered the way Arsenal play.

“I don’t think the playing style of Arsenal changed a lot with the new signings coming in,” he said.

“Maybe they have a different number nine than they had last season, although (Gabriel) Jesus was also a real number nine but didn’t play that much.

“But the one they have now is different to Havertz, for example, or Trossard who played last season in our home game.

“That is more a false nine you could say whereas Gyokeres is more a target man so that is maybe a small difference where we have to know. He makes maybe more runs in behind than the other number nines.

“But in general, I see a lot of similarities with the style of play they have.”
