Former Blues boss Glenn Hoddle believes the club would be in a better state if Thomas Tuchel was still in charge.

Tuchel was a very popular figure at Stamford Bridge and guided Chelsea to their second Champions League title in 2021 after replacing club legend Frank Lampard.

The German, who was recently named England manager also won the Club World Cup and the Uefa Super Cup during his time in west London.

Hoddle feels Chelsea would be better if Tuchel was still in charge

Despite seeing Chelsea through a tough period when the club were under sanctions, Tuchel was dismissed in September 2022 and replace by Graham Potter.

Potter didn’t even see the season out, with Lampard returning for an interim spell before Mauricio Pochettino was appointed and then dismissed in the summer after just one season in charge.

Enzo Maresca is the new man in charge and the 44-year has made a good start to the season with the Blues currently sitting fifth just a point behind Arsenal in third, although they did get knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle on Wednesday evening.

Tuchel guided Chelsea to their second Champions League title in 2021.

Chelsea appear to be on the up on under Maresca and whilst Hoddle admitted that, he also felt the Blues would be in a better position if Tuchel were still in charge.

“I like him, I’ve spent a bit of time with him and had a few interviews with him and spoke to him after, I like him, he told The Overlap.

“Look at what he did at Chelsea and what happened to them after he left, he won the Champions League there.

“He should still be there now and they would be in a better state. I think Chelsea are back by the way, I think they’ve got a good chance of getting themselves back there.

“But they went missing for a while there. If he would have stayed.”

It’s difficult to know if Chelsea would be in a better state or not but the performances towards the end of Tuchel’s reign were poor, but the focus now has to be on looking forward rather than back.
