Crystal Palace head coach Laura Kaminski says that Barclays Women’s Super League survival would be every bit as special as last season’s Barclays Women’s Championship title success.

The Eagles were second tier champions for the first time in 2023/2024 after collecting 46 points from their 22 games. Crystal Palace were a delight to watch with the South Londoners having netted 55 goals, 16 more than the next best side.

Remaining in the Barclays Women’s Super League for more than one campaign is exceptionally tough and Crystal Palace boss Kaminski says that survival would be every bit as huge as last season’s trophy success.

“The trophy will be just as big to stay up as it was to get up,” Kaminski said when speaking to the media in a Crystal Palace press conference. “That feeling is what we are after, that’s what we want and that’s what we are working hard for every day. We can’t have it just because we want it.

“We have to pull it to pieces and get to work every day we come into this building to make sure that we can achieve it and I believe that we can. Everything I do every day is working towards that goal for the group and for the club. We want to stay up and we understand what is needed to get that over the line.”

Crystal Palace are four points from safety with 10 games remaining but Kaminski says that the situation can improve very quickly with a couple of results.

She said “If you translate [four points behind], the table flips and changes with a win and a little bit more. I can’t control what goes on in and around us, I have to think about what goes on in-house here.

“We control our own luck, we create our own destiny in terms of that. We have to work hard to take luck out of the equation. You have to have the rub of the green and I think we had some of that last year in terms of things going our way but ultimately, we made that happen because we were playing some of the best football that we’ve seen and scored a phenomenal amount of goals. Sometimes, you gain momentum, gather speed and no-one can keep up with you and at the moment, we are trying to turn that around to our favour.

“We know we have to make our own luck, we can’t rely on those around us. It’s us and we focus in-house here with our players; how we get the best performance and take the points home on the day.”

Crystal Palace face local rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in their latest fixture this afternoon. Kaminski says that while the game is seen as a derby, every game holds equal importance.

She said “With regard to this game being a derby, every game for us at this moment in time is huge. Week-by-week, we’ve got to be able to compete in every single game and this game is no different to any other.”

Crystal Palace’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 2pm.
